BMS Recognized as MEEA 2016 School of the Year BMS Awarded 2016 MEEA School of the Year

On January 25, 2017 the Maine Environmental Education Association named BMS the 2016 School of the Year! An excerpt from the announcement gives a wonderful snapshot of why we are recognized:

“On behalf of the Maine Environmental Education Association it is my true pleasure to let you know that Bath Middle School has been named as MEEA's 2016 School of the Year! Congratulations to you and the staff of Bath Middle School for your commitment to engaging your students in the environment as you create authentic learning opportunities for them…  Your good work stands as a role model for other schools in Maine to follow!”

Much of this recognition is for the progression of outdoor and environmental activities we offer students; a 6th grade science camp in at Chewonki, a 7th grade overnight trip to Ferry Beach Ecology School, and the 8th grade FLOW program with Chewonki. Of great importance is our dedication to community based environmental work in partnership with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust. Through Expeditions, students work in the community to chart sea level rise on the Bath waterfront, and have spent the last few years as part of an invasive species study on green crabs. To top it off, the Maine Legislature also recognized us with an "official expression of sentiment" sharing their congratulations and best wishes.

Maine Legislature Recognition

BMS is honored and humbled to be recognized for this work!

Teen Summer Reading at Patten Free Library

Please help your child maintain their reading skills by encouraging them to participate in Patten Free Library's teen summer reading program, which kicks off on June 18. Anyone entering 7th through 12th grades can earn coupons and prizes for food and merchandise from local stores just for reading books! Download the program brochure and a reading log today... let's see how many books our teens can read this summer!

The library also orders a Wednesday night movie series just for teens. The schedule is listed on the back of the reading log. Free admission, popcorn, and air conditioning! More details about the reading program and summer activities for teens can also be found at http://yaatpatten.wordpress.com.
